Wealth Management

Our team of independent chartered financial planners help clients plan for an independent and happy future.

We work with individuals, families, business owners and trustees, handling a huge variety of situations and asset levels - from small pension pots to large investment portfolios.

We offer a completely bespoke service, starting with a free and no obligation first consultation where we will start to understand your current position and future needs.  This also gives you a chance to meet one of our team so you can decide if they are the right advisor for you to work with in the years ahead.

French Duncan Wealth Management is completely independent, a wholly-owned subsidiary of French Duncan LLP, able to advise across the whole of the market and thus deliver truly unbiased and tailored advice.  We have been awarded Chartered Financial Planners status, which is regulated by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). This is the industry’s gold standard status, and confirms that we have satisfied rigorous qualification criteria, and that we adhere to an industry-standard Code of Ethics. To find out more about the Institute, you can watch the short film on the right.

Our Services

The concept of retirement planning is relatively simple; what assets do you have or need to put aside in the future, to ensure you have a comfortable retirement when you are no longer earning.

Of course that's easy to say, but there are multiple complexities such as your tax situation (now and in the future), pension incentives / limitations, your attitude to risk, economic changes that might take place plus the rules and regulations around all of this.  Then just to make things more confusing, not all pensions allow the same access to benefits, and some older pensions can have valuable guarantees people may not always be aware of.

Our team have all the knowledge and experience to navigate you through this, and indeed work closely every day with colleagues in our Personal Tax team to ensure we take a holistic approach for every client.

The subject of Inheritance Tax can be a thorny one with many people finding this tax to be particularly unfair.  And with the rises in property prices over the years, many families now find themselves potentially liable to Inheritance Tax.

Couple this with many people's concern over potential Long Term Care costs (often having to be met from the sale of assets) and again there is much to carefully consider as we all look towards our retirement.

Our team can help you understand and consider a range of tools to provide you with peace of mind, which may be something as simple as insurance to enable your beneficiaries to settle any inheritance tax liability without the added stress and burden of having to make hasty decisions.

All our advisers are adept in this complex area, with experience of working both with sole individuals and multiple generations of families.  Get in touch to start discussing how we can help you.

The area of financial planning for businesses is one where our financial advisors demonstrate a wide variety of skills.  For example, the business may want to consider:

  • Protecting itself from the loss of profits that may arise as a result of the death or disability of its key individuals.
  • Providing pension, employee benefit and incentive packages for its staff, which may vary depending on the seniority of the staff.
  • The efficient management of any excess reserves it may build-up, either by way of cash management or in appropriate investment markets.
  • The situation of any owned trading premises, whether collaborative or via a pension fund.
  • Succession planning arrangements for the business, to ensure that an efficient transfer of ownership can take place in the event of the death, serious illness or long-term incapacity.

Often the needs of the business and its owners are interlinked, so our team help clients consider all the elements at play to arrive at the best solution for them.

Interest rates are low, investments can be risky and there are more investment opportunities out there than ever before.  Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs), pensions, investment bond wrapper, general investment accounts as well as direct shareholdings...and we could go on.

That's why our team firstly ensure they understand each client's short, medium and long term requirements, and look at these in the context of the whole financial situation.  That's the only way we can then provide suitable investment advice.

If you choose to deal with French Duncan Wealth Management, you will always know how much you are being charged, and from where the charges will be met.

We are always happy to meet prospective new clients for a free, no obligation first meeting.  Once you've decided to engage, we will then make you aware in advance of any fees you may incur.

For undertaking research on your affairs and for providing recommendations, our fee is determined by the amount of time we spend doing this - which we will quote to your in advance.  If you then wish us to proceed with our recommendations, we may charge you a value-based fee, which will reflect the type, complexity and value of the business being undertaken.  Most clients find this to be an extremely fair method of working.

It is possible that commissions may still be a factor in your affairs, although these are likely to diminish over time.  Our view is that commissions belong to the client and can be used to offset any fee charges.

The team are assisted by two Paraplanners, Peter McGowan and Julie Wilson and helping to meet the needs of the team's varied client portfolios are two client service technicians.
