HR: Supporting Mental Health / Wellbeing

Our Guide to Supporting Mental Health & Wellbeing in your Organisation during Coronavirus

The impact of Coronavirus has been devastating in terms of the serious and life-threatening illness it can cause and also in terms of the effect it has had on the global economy. In addition to this, however, the indirect social, mental health and wider well-being consequences should also be given appropriate consideration.

With a period of lockdown now having been in place for 3 months and significant restrictions on daily life still remaining in place across the UK, the social implications of this pandemic cannot be ignored by any organisation.  And it is likely employers will need to act proactively in this unprecedented time.

Awareness of mental health issues are becoming more prevalent within our society and it is our view at French Duncan HR, that organisations who do not take proactive steps to support their staff now and into the future, will see increased levels of absence and reduced productivity – this is especially relevant in the current climate as employees will likely find uncertainty and sustained periods without work to be particularly challenging. As the job retention scheme begins to gradually wind down and businesses start to get back to doing what they do best, it will be necessary for employers to tackle social problems in order to avoid future operational difficulties.

With this in mind, we have prepared a guide to supporting mental health & wellbeing in your organisation during the coronavirus pandemic. This comprises two documents; one a useful support document which can be handed out directly to employees (Taking Care of your Mental Wellbeing, - click here to download) and second a practical resource specifically for employers to help identify and take steps to prevent issues arising (The Impact of Lockdown and Social Isolation - click here to download).
