Owner Managed Businesses

Owner Managed Business

Owner managed businesses account for a huge share of UK industries and we are proud to support many clients that fall into this category. We recognise that one of the most common factors affecting these companies, and the people who run them, is time.  Juggling life and work commitments is more difficult than ever when the two are inextricably linked.

We can help
We see our role as being much more than just your bean counter or the people that do your tax return. Rather, we are the principal advisor to our owner/manager clients. We understand the necessity for the day-to-day compliance but it’s all the extra advice and assistance that we bring to the table that builds trust, and saves you time.

Common questions raised by our business owner clients include:

  • How do I grow from a lifestyle business to a more corporate structure of value?
  • What investment in systems should I make now to benefit my business in the long term?
  • How do I develop a management team, and share responsibility for the growth of my business?
  • What’s my exit route?
  • How do I pass responsibility for business growth on to the next generation?

All of these questions involve calculations and tax issues; but they also get to the heart of a business. With our extensive experience of working with business owners across a wide range of sectors we are confident that we can show you the bigger picture and help you achieve your full potential – whilst keeping an even balance between work life and family life.

John has been a Partner in French Duncan since 2005 following its merger with O’Sullivan Cleary, where he had worked since 2000. Prior to then, John was Manager of the Business Services group in the Glasgow office of Grant Thornton.

John delivers accountancy, taxation and other business advisory services to clients ranging from private individuals to companies with seven plus figure turnovers over a diverse range of sectors including the third sector.

In his role as an Entrepreneurial Services partner, John looks beyond the client’s business to help the owner/managers with their financial affairs. This is done during the lifetime of the business; when the owner/managers are preparing to exit the business and; when planning for life after business. Helping clients is largely based around dealing with accounting and tax compliance. Value is added through management reporting and other advisory services which businesses without any in-house financial expertise need either when starting up; growing and developing or; trying to maintain financial stability in recessionary times.
