The government recently announced that it has extended the grant scheme to fund employee training and IT improvements for customs intermediaries, traders and hauliers, which sees an additional £16m of funding being made available. The grant scheme was originally due to come to an end on 31 January 2020, but presumably has been extended to January 2021 in light of the fact that, whilst we have technically Brexited the EU, we are still in within the negotiation period. This results in an extended timeframe in which to make changes to the UK’s customs procedures, with any necessary changes only likely to take effect from 1 January 2021.
