Government Grant Scheme for IT Improvements & Employee Training

In 2020 the government announced that it had extended the grant scheme to fund employee training and IT improvements for customs intermediaries, traders and hauliers, which saw an additional £16m of funding being made available. The grant scheme was originally due to come to an end on 31 January 2020, although presumably was extended to 31 January 2021 in light of the fact that, while the UK had technically left the EU, it was still within the transitional phase and negotiations were ongoing. This resulted in an extended timeframe in which to make changes to the UK’s customs procedures, with any necessary changes only taking effect from 1 January 2021.

The grant exists to provide financial support for employee training and IT improvements linked to customs declarations.

The application process is still open although it is nearing allocation of funds, so it is important to move quickly if you want to apply. Applications will be placed on a waiting list where the current funding has been exhausted.
