VAT Alert - Consultation on e-books
04 August 2016
Unlike normal paper books, which are zero rated, digital publications and e-books are subject to VAT at the standard rate of 20%.
The European Commission has launched a consultation with a view to abolishing the standard rate of VAT on these products. It is seeking views on allowing member states to either apply a reduced rate or zero rate to such publications.
Who might it affect?
E-book publishers should consider submitting a comment on the potential impact that a reduction to the standard rate will have on the e-book market and their business.
What to do
Submit comments direct to http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/common/consultations/tax/super_reduced_rates_vat_en.htm or pass to the French Duncan VAT team for onward submission. The consultation runs until 19 September 2016.
If you have any queries or concerns please contact French Duncan’s VAT Senior Manager Maria McConnell on 0141 221 2984 or email email@example.com.
