A GLASGOW accountant will be swapping the ledger for the book as he prepares to referee at one of the biggest youth football tournaments in the world.
After securing a bursary, Connor Ashwood will fly to Texas to referee at the Dallas Cup in 2017.
The trainee accountant will be donning his football boots on American soil and oversee the future stars of Manchester United and Real Madrid compete in the tournament.
He said: "This is such a fantastic opportunity and I’m extremely honoured to secure this bursary.
"The Dallas Cup tournament attracts football teams from around the world, including Real Madrid and Manchester United and getting the chance to referee under 18s at this high profile event will be an experience to remember.
"I’ll be spending a few weeks in Texas in April, but I’ll be back to finish off my accountancy exams and pursue my accountancy career before long."
The 23 year old from Finnieston who studied accountancy at Glasgow University referees junior football matches in his spare time in the Scottish Junior Football Association's west region.
The audit trainee works with Scottish accountancy firm French Duncan.
